Spring has sprung and we are happy to tell you all we have our first newborn baby monkey. We were all very excited last Tuesday to see the new baby. They babies are born with little pink wrinkly faces and black fur and so are very different from the adults. Our first monkey mother of 2016 is Lucy on the River Bend Mob.

When the babies are first born they are very small and quiet clinging to their mother’s stomach as you can see in the photo. From birth they have very strong arms and legs and are able to hold on tight upside down whenever Mum is on the move. We have seen several babies now on the neighboring groups around our study area so we are excited to see which of our females give birth next. As always we will keep you posted on this.
