Sibella Walk

By Samara on February 11, 2013

As Managers we don’t get out that often and we usually have to be content with
the little animals that enter camp form time to time. These little critters are
usually monkeys around the Karoo suites or the mountain tortoises feeding on
the lawn. Occasionally we get spoilt by the Samara queen her self and Sibella
makes an appearance close to Karoo lodge.

Tendai told me in the morning he had finally found Sibella, she was lying up on
the ridge behind camp. This was after 3 days of her not being seen; she was
watching us looking for her … touché!

That Afternoon, both Tendai and Test took their guests out for a game drive by
walking out of camp, funny I know. I was itching to get out there my self, Leana
and I had arrived in the Karoo only a few weeks ago and still had not seen this
beautiful cheetah yet. So when the opportunity presented it self, I grabbed my
camera and off I went to meet Sibella.

Test was still with her when I finally joined them, lets not forget that we are on
foot. This was truly a magical moment, I have guided across the continent and
never did I think it was possible to walk with a completely wild cheetah.

There was a moment when one of the cubs strayed away from Sibella.
The whole party walked after this little chap who had been distracted by
a group of Rooi Hartebees.

After a while Sibella started calling and not long afterwards the little adventurer
returned back to his mom, with all of us in tow.

To share this moment with out a noisy engine and clutter that usually
accompanies a game viewing vehicle was refreshing.

Best Regards
