Guides Report 5 November

By Samara on November 5, 2013

The Rains have come and the Karoo does not at the moment resemble
the semi arid desert as described in so many books written about the region.

The Days are getting warmer and the tortoises are taking over the
various lawns found on Samara. We could easily have up to 10 or 12
on a hot day.

The Cheetah have been found more regularly in the Milk river valley,
as game has moved down to feed on the fresh green grass found on
the valley floor. We have been seeing plenty of young animals for
the season, the Red hartebeest babies are seen with every group of
females. Even the tiny Steenbok have had the little ones for the
season.

There is plenty of signs that the Aardvark are busy at night, as every
morning there are new holes on the roads. The night drives have
been rewarding to some degree, as the night are much warmer now
and most animals have gone back to their normal routines.

Both the Milk and Monkey rivers are flowing, with the water heard
flowing over the rocks from the lodge. Which is a welcome break
from the deafening silence of the winter months. The season birds
are also starting to make them selves heard, with many blue cranes
back on the property. We are now well into summer and the bush is
green and flourishing.
