FRACKING HAS TOUCHED A WOMAN. IT HAS TOUCHED A ROCK!

By Samara on August 4, 2011
On Women’s Day, August 9, Climate Justice Campaign have organised a march through the streets of Cape Town to bring awareness of the threat that fracking poses to the vulnerable in society, specifically women and children.
In the words of Sandra Steingraber: “Every day, I pour this water into glasses and hand them to my children. Every day, this water becomes their blood plasma. It becomes their tears. It becomes their cerebral spinal fluid.” You can read her views in Orion Magazine.
Join the march for a fun walk through the city. Bring a gasmask and an anti-fracking poster.
Gather in front of the NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM in the Company Gardens from 10h30 and start walking at 11h00, all the way down Long St, turning into Strand St and back to the Company Gardens via Adderley St… handing out flyers about the controversial method of extracting shale gas not only from the Karoo, but worldwide!
WE SEEK A GLOBAL BAN ON FRACKING NOW
Dress up, wear overalls, or whatever you like… this is about visual impact! (Just remember, the law stipulates that you are not allowed to dress like a soldier or a policeman, OK!)
Any mask will do and you dont need a mask to participate, you will not be able wear the masks as you walk through the city as it is illegal to conceal your face during a gathering. There will however be a photo before beginning the walk for which you will be able to wear the mask
Be creative with your posters! Here are a couple of suggestions:
YOU CAN’T DRINK GAS OR MONEY!
WOMEN & CHILDREN AGAINST FRACKING!
CLEAN AIR & WATER – BAN FRACKING!
THERE IS NO PLANET B!
FRACKED GAS IS A BRIDGE TO HELL!
DON’T FRACK WITH OUR FUTURE!
DON’T TOUCH US ON OUR KAROO!
FRACK OFF $HELL! ($ASOL, FALCON, BUNDU, $UN$ET, ANGLO)
SO ARE YOU COMING?
