Best for: families with up to 3 young children
Best-suited to families with 1-3 younger children, our Karoo Suites offer family-friendly safari accommodation in three cottages.
Located at our Karoo Lodge, each unit comprises a large bedroom with a seating area in which beds or cots can easily be installed. The cottages all have wraparound verandahs with views of a private waterhole, so children can take in the wild whilst never straying too far from mum and dad. One of the cottages contains an additional alcove where up to three extra beds can be arranged particularly spaciously. Request this room at the time of booking (subject to availability).
The fine print: In the Karoo Suites, children aged 0-3 years, sharing with 2 adults, stay free. Children aged 3-14 years, sharing with 2 adults, pay 50% of the adult rate. A maximum of 3 children under 14 can be accommodated in these suites on extra beds, sharing with 2 adults.
Best for: families with kids over 14
Also at Karoo Lodge you’ll find 4 Lodge Suites situated within the main homestead. Three of these suites are located in their own wing of the house, sharing a small vestibule off the main area. These suites provide convenient and comfortable accommodation for families with older, or grown-up, children.
Parents will be reassured that their children are staying just metres away, whilst the teens themselves will appreciate the independence of their own room.
The fine print: Children over 14 are required to take their own room at adult rates. For those under 14, a maximum of 2 kids can be accommodated in these suits on extra beds, sharing with 2 adults.
Best for: families on a budget
The Sibella Suites are two interleading rooms at Karoo Lodge located 5 minutes’ walk from the main homestead. These suites are a little smaller than the Lodge and Karoo Suites, but have the advantage of a private deck overlooking the Sibella waterhole, where warthogs come to wallow and antelope quench their thirst. Children will love the freedom of their own space, and parents will relish in the privacy of the suites’ location.
The grounds of Karoo Lodge, including the Sibella Suites, are delineated with a 45-degree angle electrified fence to ensure dangerous wildlife remains outside the perimeter. Kids can therefore explore the fenced area, including the Sibella Trail and the Cubs’ Den, to their heart’s content.
