We have
just returned from a most enjoyable week at Samara with
our four children (aged 15,13,11 & 9). So much
more than just a game reserve, the accommodation was
luxurious, the food delicious and the staff attentive.
A week in such a heavenly place gave us a real chance to unwind.
Time moves slowly at Samara and the absence of mobile phones
(they are out of range, although WiFi is available at the Lodge
for those who need to keep in touch with the outside world)
I found a real blessing. Game drives, stalking Cheetah
on foot and picnics overlooking the great expanse of the Karoo;
we were thrilled, fascinated and delighted. The children
were well entertained by the rangers, spending a couple of nights
camping out under the stars, cooking bread over the barbeque
fire and learning skills from the tracking academy. We
played board games, tennis and swam in the pool, but most of
the time we just sat and watched the beautiful game that roams
wild in this secret world nestled betwixt mountains in the heart
of the Karoo. I’d heartily recommend a stay at Samara,
just don’t make it too short – this is a place to
immerse yourself into life in Africa as it once was, and you’ll
be sorry to leave. - Trip Advisor -traveller147
just
returned home having spent a week at Samara and it is without
doubt the best camp I have ever been to. And
I have been going to Africa every year since 1986 and have been
to many, many camps so feel that I am in a position to judge.
Of course what makes it really spectacular, is the beauty,
the décor, the food, the staff, “Sibella”,
the history and the preservation of a very important corner
of the world.. It is like stepping
back in time, to a more genteel, beautiful and caring world.
I will return often! I believe in my heart that there are a
few – just a few – who come to Africa for a rest
and to restore our souls and this is most definitely the place
for that. - Valerie Price
I
have been to a number of game lodges before,
and I have to say, the experience, food and service of Samara
was really one of the best. You can be proud
of the property and its staff.I hope I can have my clients experiencing
the same thing I have, in the near future.Samara is a top-class
establishment. - Eksteen van Dewenter | Key Accounts Manager

So beautiful
and still. Anica, Wayne and all the ladies made our stay very
memorable. I'm sure we'll be back! Well
done on your contribution to our planet - Kim,

is perfekt!
An excellent
stay. "success is a journey, not a destination,

A
different game experience.
We stayed here for three days and enjoyed every minute. The
owners are rescuing a large tract of land after overgrazing
and it is wonderful to see the progress being made. It is not
a big five reserve and gives you
a much more personal experience. The wonder
of going up the mountain and finding savannah opening up over
the Karoo then having a picnic looking down on the lower reserve
is hard to describe. Walking up close to a wild cheetah is such
a buzz.
On the accommodation side they go the extra mile with lunch
in the shade under trees and dinner under the stars with hurricane
lamps and candles to help celebrate our wedding anniversary.
If you want something different
then this place gives you an away from it all experience.

We
expected a lot by this reserve but we found more.
It’s a really fantastic place: The Karoo Lodge
is very nice and the colonial style suites very comfortable
and cosy: The general atmosphere is the one of a family: very
relaxing.
But the real wonder is the landscape . Michael, our ranger,
drove us up to the mountains in the reserve, driving on a quite
steep stone road and when we arrived right on the top a huge
plateau with endless horizon waited for us: herd of black wildebeest
, zebras and elands grazing, the bright colours of the fields
yellowed by the winter, the green trees and the blue sky with
a couple of snow capped mountains not so far away are something
I cannot describe! Having a cup of coffee on the ridge of the
mountains overlooking the immense valleys down, is stunning.
And, at last , the cheetahs: we were lucky to meet Sibella
the cheetah ,wandering on the plateau: fantastic . It was quite
cold while we were there but coming back from the game drives
the room was very warm with the fireplace lit. But what was
a nice surprise was the bath: filled with warm water , perfumed
salts and 2 glasses of sherry waiting for us: fantastic! - extracted

J'ai vraiment adoré mon séjour à Samara.
Vous avez un lodge absolument sublime et en toute honnêteté,
Samara est tout à fait unique! Un mot souvent galvaudé
sauf dans le cas de Samara où tout est parfait.
